FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Snacks vs. physical activity.
Being a student is often a stressfully fun experience in which we sit for hours, stay up late, eat delicious snacks, and worry about our grades. Those late-night cram sessions can often lead to a disappearing act involving a party size bag of tortilla chips. Unfortunately, habits like these really help to pack on some pounds and make us feel tired. Abdominal visceral fat has the potential to cause health issues that are difficult to treat and could lead to an early death. Exercising has been shown reverse the impacts from our poor snacking choices. Many people will often argue, “Why don’t you just clean up your diet”? That doesn’t really help with maintenance. “Substantial weight loss induced by exercise was found to be associated with maintenance of lean tissue” and not just the reduction of food intake (Mayo, Grantham, & Balasekaran, 2003, p. 207)
